Helping Kids with Cancer

TGFK was the idea of Tommy Ricci (pictured below right) who is a Leukemia survivor. After Tommy came out of surgery and had his first chemotherapy session, he was given a toy by his Social Worker, Dale. This made Tommy so happy that he told me and my wife, Julie, that he thought it would be a great idea if every time a kid went through this, they could get a toy!

Our Story

We were so impressed that he had the grace to think of others when he was so sick, that we promised we would make it happen.  At first we asked our Family to help us buy some toys.  Then it grew to Friends and Neighbors.  Then the word spread at Tommy’s School and at our jobs and at our Church and in the community.

All these later, we have given thousands of toys to kids who are in treatment for cancer at A.I. duPont Hospital (Nemours) for Children in Wilmington, Delaware and will continue to do so with the help of individuals like YOU!  How can you help?  You can organize a Toy Drive at work, at your Church or in your Community.  You can click the link below and make a donation through PayPal. (You do NOT need a PayPal Account to donate!)  Also, you can follow us on FaceBook and share a link to our page to help us grow awareness. Please know that this is a labor of love for our Family and we are so blessed that Tommy survived and we pray for all the Children who have become Angels or are still fighting their battles.  One of the most incredibly emotional moments of my life was watching Tommy as an 11-year-old giving a toy to a young boy who was too shy to get up and grab a toy from the bin in the Hematology/Oncology Clinic at duPont.  So Tommy grabbed a stuffed animal and brought it to him.  I was pretending not to watch, but I was.  Tommy gave the boy the toy and said “You know, I used to have Cancer and I came here all the time.  I am fine now and you will be too!”  The boy smiled and perked up.  I cried like a baby.

Here’s a few ways YOU can help!

Host a Toy Drive

Collect Toys at Your Job, Church, Club or Neighborhood!

Every year, dozens of retailers, corporations and churches have a toy drive which collects toys for TGFK. Tommy’s Gifts for Kids will drop off a bin, posters and donation receipts to your place of business. After the bin is filled with unwrapped toys, we will pick them up. We encourage you to purchase gifts with an average value of around $5.

If your business would like to be a drop-off point for Tommy’s Gifts for Kids, Please let us know!
